Ce ornamente de Craciun alegem?// What kind of Christmas ornaments are more eco-friendly?

Dupa ce am “rezolvat” bradul, putem trece la partea și mai interesantă: ornamentele de Crăciun. Și aici am câteva idei și vreau sa fac așa, o mică ierarhie ?.

Pe locul întâi sunt cele făcute din ce avem la îndemână prin casă și eventual e și comestibil ?: ghirlande din popcorn (din ăla făcut în casă în ceaun/ cratiță … miiiaam), steluțe din coji de portocală ce vor mirosi demențial în casă sau decorațiuni din aluat. Toate sunt naturale, biodegradabile 100% și foarte amuzant de facut alaturi de copii, nepoți sau chiar între adulți. Câteva videouri faine puteți gasi aici, aici și aici. Iar afară, în parcuri și nu numai, se găsesc conuri de brad, crenguțe verzi sau cu bobițe roșii (am uitat cum se numesc ?) perfecte pentru împodobirea casei

Pe locul doi sunt cele din sticlă, bumbac, fetru, lemn. Indicat ar fi să ne ferim de poliester pentru că nu este deloc prietenos cu mediul (și nici sănătos pentru noi din câte am citit). De obicei recomand decorațiunile handmade pentru că pot fi personalizate, pot fi special făcute pentru o persoană, poartă o părticică din sufletul și pasiunea celui ce le-a facut și ajutăm și economia locală un pic. Dar dacă nu aveți timp sau buget pentru ele, genul ăsta de decorațiuni se gasesc și în hipermarketuri, piețe sau târguri tematice. De asemenea nu le recomand pe cele cu sclipici pentru că nu sunt biodegradabile (sclipiciul este facut din bucațele de plastic care polueaza) și se mai și împraștie prin toată casa. Însă dacă aveți deja genul ăsta, cel mai bine e sa le folosiți, căci aruncate ar fi și mai neprietenoase cu natura.

O altă recomandare ar fi să cumpărăm decorațiuni calitative, care sa dureze ani și ani, nu să cumpărăm mereu. Mi se pare foarte fain să folosim în fiecare an aceleași globuri, ghirlande și alte fericiri de genul pentru că intra în tradiția familiei. Îmi amintesc cu drag că ai mei aveau niște globuri de sticlă făcute special pentru ei de un prieten de-al lor și, în fiecare an, le scoteam cu drag și le puneam cu grijă în pom, ceea ce facea ca totul sa devina și mai special. Încă le mai au și îmi bucură sufletul cu atâtea amintiri dragi de fiecare data când le vad. Voi ce decorațiuni aveți?

In a previous blog post I have discussed about a sustainable choice for the Christmas tree, now let’s chatter about the Christmas decorations. I’ve made a top 3 most eco -friendly Christmas decorations, so let’s begin.

The most sustainable option regarding this kind of decorations is to use what we already have in our household and eventually good to eat too ??. For example we can make Christmas decorations from home made popcorn (but not the one packed in a plastic bag, the one we can buy bulk), we can also make little stars from orange peels and put them on a string and make the tree smell like heaven or you can also bake some decorations using a very simple recipe. They are all natural, 100% biodegradable and very fun to make with children, grandparents or parents. Some cool videos about this you can find here, here and here. And outside you can find pine cones, green twigs and other natural things like this and all of them will look amazing in the house and in the tree.

Another eco option for this sort of decorations are the ones made out of glass, wood, cotton, felt and I’ve even seen ones in stone too and they were wonderful. And they last a very long time (except the glass ones if you are clumsy like me ??). I don’t at all recommend the ones made of polyester, because it is very bad for the environment and not so good for our health either (as far as I’ve read). I usually recommend handmade decorations because they can be made specially for a loved someone, they were made with passion by a local artist and we also help the local economy (I’ve said that before in another post, but it’s important to buy locally for many reasons that I will explain on a different occasion). But if you don’t have budget for handmade decorations, you can also them in supermarkets or winter fairs. Another thing to skip this Christmas is anything with glitter, because glitter is made out of small plastic pieces non biodegradables, not recyclable. But if you already have all of this no nos in the house, it’s best you use them and not let them go to waste in the landfill or they will pollute even more.

And the last recommendation is to buy high quality stuff in order to have them for years to come. And to get the chance to make them a part of our family. My parents have some old Christmas decorations, made out of glass, that they’ve received from a friend when I was a small child. Every Christmas we used them in our tree and now, every time I see them, all those wonderful moments come back to me and I love it!
